My 2nd foray into Blog Action Day is coming up. My entry for last year was tripe. Not very compelling commentary on the environment. But what can you do when you don't do the research? I guess you just make up things or as journalists might label it- spin it. Well my apologies to those who read it. Of course, Phil won't care. He's not that type of guy as I found out earlier today. But really, my contributions to help us become more sustainable are probably worthy to recount. So far I've been biking to work and almost everywhere in town. It cut down on the carbon as well as saves me money. Another factor in there could be that it keeps me healthier and doesn't tax the health care system. I enjoy biking too. Does been greener have to suck? Over the last year I have been cutting down on my plastic bag use by using a re-usable bag or recycling those darn plastic bags at the market. I couldn't believe my ears. A Spiderman musical? What more can they think of to market this wallcrawling, webslinging, freak of super hero? However you can do nearly anything on Broadway these days. I think they had a helicopter actually take off in Miss Saigon a decade ago. So making a guy fling himself unto walls and building is not very far fetched. Indeed this will be a blockbuster of a show if it gets off. And if the idea of the musical doesn't rock you then hear this: Bono and the Edge are attached to it. No, not by webbing but apparently there have been whispers that these Irish blokes will be writing the music. Nothing new to Broadway since Abba has made a fortune writing musicals. I'd find it unusual to hear Spiderman singing a U2esque song but I really enjoyed the only other super hero cannonized on Broadway: Superman. I n a highly unusual act, State Representative Scot Kelch decided to press for a resolution to honor Bono in North Dakota. The measure failed albeit amongst some confusion as some lawmakers perceived the resolution would honor the late Sonny Bono (whoses birthday it happens to be today 16 Feb) and failed to see it as important. I believe Bono, the newly christened spokesperson for peace on earth and goodwill toward man, has made no comment concerning the snub. He just kept playing in his band, U2. Far from being a ludachrist legistlative stunt to grab headlines the world over for North Dakota, the resolution would have honored a fellow who has used his gigantic fame to move this generation into action concerning poverty, AIDS, and numerous associated humanitarian concerns. [My personal favorite is clean water.] But does he need anymore praise? I think the praise sometimes overshadows the work and then creates backlash because of jealousy or what not.
